In each Maine county, the Soil and Water Conservation District is governed by a board of five supervisors. The Board, by law, consists of three publicly elected supervisors and two appointed volunteers appointed by the Department Of Agriculture, Conservation And Forestry (DACF).
Elected Supervisor serve 3-year terms, and work together to guide the conservation goals and actions steps for our county. The public elections are held locally and monitored by DACF.
Supervisors are unpaid volunteer positions that dedicate their time and knowledge to the conservation of local natural resources. If you are interested in running for our board in our next election, please contact our office:

All candidates shall be at least eighteen years of age at the time of the official election and reside within the boundaries of Hancock County, Maine.

How it works
Voting can take place between Nov 16 and Dec 7 2026. There are 3 ways for Hancock County residents to vote:
1.) At the SWCD office between Nov 16 and Dec 7 2026, 474 Bucksport Road in Ellsworth. Open Mon-Wed-Fri 9am-2pm.
2.) At our Election night and plant sale kick-off event on Dec 7 2026 at the Ellsworth Extension Office, 63 Boggy Brook Road, Ellsworth, 5-6:30pm
3.) By requesting the ballot be mailed to them prior to November 16 by calling 207-667-8663 or by emailing hcswcdinfo@hancockcountyswcd.org. Absentee ballots must be received by the SWCD office by Dec 7 at 6:30pm.
All ballots must be accompanied by a Voter Certification form, signed to confirm the voter is a resident of Hancock County.
