Support Conservation
There’s more than one way to make a difference
Thank you for visiting our Support Conservation page. There are many ways to support District programs and workshops, from donations and volunteering to becoming an Associate Supervisor. Read on to learn about various opportunities to be a part of local conservation efforts.
Make A Donation
Clean water and thriving farms don't happen by accident. Your gift supports the education, planning, and on-the-ground work that keeps Hancock County's natural resources thriving for generations to come. We receive state funding ($37,500 annually) and variable county funding ($10,000 in 2026) but otherwise depend on grants and donations to maintain our full operations with services, events and two part-time staff.
Any contribution you make is not only great appreciated, but also goes directly into free programming that the District provides across Hancock County, Maine, including Free Backyard Rewilding Site Visits, Dissolved Oxygen Meter Lending to Lake Associations, annual educational Field Days for Wild Blueberry Farmers and Foresters, and much more:
Farmer technical assistance and cost-share programs
Watershed and water quality protection
Invasive species education and management
Conservation planning for private landowners
Community workshops and outreach

Volunteer with HCSWCD
Our conservation work in Hancock County depends on community residents and organizations to support and contribute to it. We maintain a list of conservation-related opportunities that are organized by our partners, and, when possible, we organize events and volunteer opportunities that are specific to our soil and water projects. We invite you to join one or all of these opportunities to stay connected with conservation work in our community.
In 2026, volunteers were a huge part of the success of our annual plant sale, from tagging plants and packing orders to greeting and serving customer on the sale days. One volunteer helped us create an editorial calendar for providing up-to-date news and information to our community, and another will be helping us make our bookkeeping processes more cost-efficient. Another volunteer will be helping with conservation work such as water testing and Invasive Plant Patrol lake paddles. We are extremely grateful for all the work our volunteers do and we invite you to join our growing team of volunteers.

Learn about becoming a Board Supervisor or Associate Supervisor
Help us serve our community
Hancock County Soil & Water Conservation District is governed by a elected and appointed board of supervisors who volunteer their time to help guide conservation priorities across the county. Our 5 Board Supervisors and 2 Associate Supervisors play a meaningful role in shaping programs, supporting local farmers and landowners, and protecting the natural resources that make this region exceptional. No technical background required - just a passion for the land and your community.
